Soothe baby with colic

Soothe baby with colic

When we have a newborn at home, the joy you feel is wonderful. but, while happy, we are often dealing with lack of sleep, exhaustion, such a sudden change in life ... sometimes the process of adaptation is difficult. And when, in addition, your baby cries every night because he has colic and you don't know what to do; it is awful.

The feeling of helplessness is distressing. But, most importantly, you know that if they are colic it is something temporary that will happen.

The first thing to do if your baby cries every night and very often, is to go to your health center. In it, your pediatrician or pediatric nurse can confirm that they are really only colic and not something more worrisome. Once you have been confirmed that it is the colic of the infant, the most important thing is that you and your partner try to keep calm.

I know ... it is easier to say than to do ... because I know that as soon as the time approaches, your skin is bristling because you already know what is coming. Although it is a completely natural response, try to reverse it. Try to keep calm and be clear about what you are going to do when your baby starts crying.
Establish a plan, it will give you a focus. You'll have a task to do to help calm him. On the one hand, you will be calmer (so it will help the little one to be too); and on the other, you will have a series of actions to do with the little one to help you relax.

The main question, but, is the following: and what can I do?

Let's start with what we should not do:

- Do not massage at the time the baby is crying. The massages are wonderful and from Kusi Wawa we recommend them. In fact, we have been collaborating with the Spanish Association of Child Massage for more than a year. But the time to perform the massage is in the morning or at the time the baby is usually relaxed and receptive. When the baby is in full tears we should not do any massage because we can hurt the baby and cause rejection of the massage.

Avoid teas of anise, rice, etc. There are numerous studies that contraindicate them because they have caused side effects in newborns. A baby so small should only drink breast milk (or artificial milk in case of not breastfeeding).

- Be careful with shaking the baby. The baby will not stop crying if we get nervous and shake him. It'sgoing to have the opposite effect: he will even cry more. And shaking the baby could have very serious consequences. So if you are very nervous and alone, it is better that you leave the baby in the crib (somewhere safe that cannot be harmed) and leave the room. Take a break. Take a deep breath and then try again. The more relaxed you are, the easier it will be to calm the baby.

And once we have made clear what not to do, now we go for the things that will help calm your baby:

- The Kusi Wawa Method. At the time of crying, the best we can do is to relieve the pain our offspring feels and give him the physical contact he needs. Only then, will we calm him down. This is why the Kusi Wawa Method is so effective. With the heat of the Wawa Band we managed to relieve the gut pain and with the second part of the method we managed to calm the newborn thanks to the contact and, finally, the suction. The routine of the method helps, on the one hand, for parents to have a goal and tasks to perform during the baby's crisis, resulting in them being more relaxed. On the other hand, it creates routines for the little one, so the little one learns to anticipate the results and every time you get better results in less time. It is important to perform all the steps of the method.

- Carrying. Carrying the baby during the day may help the baby be more relaxed throughout the day. So, depending on the baby, it may help avoid colic. For a newborn, it will be important to carry through a scarf or porting shirt. Their ergonomic and safe way of behaving also makes them remember the feeling they felt when they were in Mom's belly.
